In Ethiopia during the famine, I saw stuff there that reorganized how I saw the world. I didn’t quite know what to do about it. At a certain point, I felt God is not looking for alms. God is looking for action.


For you to be successful, sacrifices must be made. It’s better that they are made by others, but failing that, you’ll have to make them yourself.

Where I’m from, men don’t open the car door for their ladies. We get in first and turn the air conditioning on. That’s the polite thing to do.

Good manners sometimes means simply putting up with other people’s bad manners

Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or a small act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.

Always be kinder than necessary.

A happy marriage is the union of two forgivers.

He who receives a benefit should never forget it; he who bestow should never remember it.

Appreciation can make a day, even change a life. Your willingness to put it into words is all that is necessary.

What about those shoes you’re in today — they’ll do no good on the bridges you burnt along the way.
